Object Storage

DevOpsCentral offers object storage backed by Ceph and exposed through its S3-compatible gateway (Ceph RGW). Because the service speaks the S3 API, you can use standard S3 clients and SDKs — such as the AWS CLI — to store and retrieve unstructured data (documents, images, backups, logs, and other files).

Object storage is different from the block storage used by your VMs. Block storage behaves like a disk attached to a single instance, while object storage stores data as buckets containing objects, accessible over the network through a simple HTTP-based API. This makes it well suited to data you want to share across services, scale out, or serve to applications over the internet.

Swift Compatibility

In addition to the S3-compatible API, DevOpsCentral object storage also exposes an OpenStack Swift-compatible API. You may use the Swift interface where an application specifically requires it; otherwise the S3-compatible API is the recommended way to work with the service.
